Color Collective: Figurative and Botanical Watercolors by Local Artist Andrea Merican
Opening Reception with the Artist: Thursday, December 8 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, during the I Spy Santa ArtWalk. The exhibition will continue through Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
Artist Statement: “I am captivated by Color. It speaks to our emotions, conveys a feeling or a mood in an instant and pulls the viewer into a work on a subconscious level. I use color in unexpected ways. By exploring and pushing the boundaries, I can give an abstract feel to a realistic subject. I am inspired by Life. To capture a personality, a moment and the true essence of whatever I am painting is what drives me. As I observe the world around me, I will see someone sitting in a beautiful pose and know I need to capture that gesture at that moment. I am amazed by Nature. The complexities and intricacies of all botanicals invite me to try to interpret them through the medium of watercolor. The botanicals of the Southwest especially intrigue me, asking me to present them in new ways.” – Andrea Merican
